Ceiba

Until 2004, Ceiba was home to the Roosevelt Roads Naval Station. Now among other things Roosevelt Roads is home of José Aponte Airport and the Ceiba Ferry Terminal, which serves Vieques and Culebra.

For a beach day, head over to Los Machos Beach, then take a walk along a tree-lined path leads that lead you to Medio Mundo Beach, a nearly two-mile stretch of paradise. Soft white sands and turquoise waters.  Note: depending on the season you could find a lot of sargassum in the shore.

 

If you're looking to immerse yourself in nature, venture inland to Charco Frío, featuring pools surrounded by ample shade. It's a great place for families, with many shallow pools where children can safely splash around. 

For the most adventurous people a hike up thru the river or paying $10+ for park in a  private property can lead you to Las Tinajas, this river showcases flowing waterfalls, natural water slides, jump ropes and cliffs to jump. You can do this adventure yourself or hire a tour guide that is what we recommend. The trail to get there could can be a little extreme for some people. This activity is not recommended for pregnant women, people with back or knee problems or people with recent surgery. 

 

Taxi from San Juan to Ceiba: Escape to Paradise

Ceiba is your door to travel to Vieques or Culebra Island; these are located east of mainland Puerto Rico and are only accessible by airplane or ferry.

If you decide to take a Taxi from San Juan to Ceiba, you can book Island Breeze Taxi services for this. Depending on the traffic, in around an hour you will be at the pier in Ceiba taking the ferry to the islands.

Ceiba ferries transport passengers and cargo to and from Vieques and Culebra seven days a week. Boats to each island leave several times a day, and trips can take between half an hour and a half, depending on which boat you board.

 

Between the two islands, Culebra is the most popular because is renowned for having some of the most stunning beaches in the Caribbean, such as Flamenco Beach, often listed among the world's top beaches. For this reason is always recommended to plan your trip ahead of time. Flights and ferry tickets sell out quickly during the high season.
